QUEENS ZOO
Part of the Wildlife Conservation Society, Queens Zoo is home
to more than 40 species of wildlife native to the Americas. From
the bison range to the aviary to the sea lion pool to the wildlife
marsh, the zoo spans 11 acres of outdoor exhibits. The expansive
domestic animal area offers visitors a chance to feed and touch a
variety of goats, sheep, and other barnyard favorites.
Open 365 days a year, the venue hosts annual programs such as a
fun run, Lunar New Year celebration, sheep shearing, the Spring
Egg-stravaganza, and summer camp.
FYI: The Wildlife Conservation Society is a consortium
dedicated to saving wildlife and wild places through science,
conservation, education, and inspiring people to value nature. In
addition to Queens Zoo, members include Bronx Zoo, Central
Park Zoo, New York Aquarium, and Prospect Park Zoo.
Inside scoop: Just outside the main entrance is a four-row
carousel with 64 jumping horses, seven standing horses, a lion,
and a few chariots. Built for the 1964 World’s Fair, it was listed
on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
