FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com december 24, 2015 • The Queens Courier 61 ST. FRANCIS PREP COMMUNITY BRINGS HOLIDAY CHEER TO THOSE IN NEED, AND EVEN THE POPE ON HIS BIRTHDAY Over the last few weeks, the entire St. Francis Prep community, driven by its Mission of respect and community, has been working on numerous projects that are focused on helping those in need. This past Saturday, students, faclty, alumni, and parents gathered to host Prep’s annual Party for Our Friends with Special Needs. Members of the special needs community, along with their caretakers, gathered in Prep’s cafteria for a meal, and the opportunity to sing and dance along with Holiday music. Students from Prep’s Step Squad, Dance Team, and Chamber Orchestra provided live entertainment. The attendees even received gifts. This party is a fixture each year, and has been going on for decades. On Thursday, December 17th, students, faculty, staff, and alumni gathered at the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Soup Kitchen in Jamaica. They brought with them food prepared by members of the Prep community for local people in need who were served a hot and hearty Christmas meal. Attendees were treated to live entertainment by members of Prep’s Chamber Orchestra. In order to help the Presentation community, Prep designed and sold long sleeve t-shirts celebrating Pope Francis’ birthday, which was also on the 17th, with all proceeds going to the Presentation Parish Soup Kitchen. Prep will be sending a shirt and letter to the Pope. All these things demonstrate how Prep constantly looks outside its community to indetify and help those in the broader community who might not be able to help themselves, or provide a special experience Brother James McVeigh, O.S.F., and Prep President, Brother Leonard Conway, O.S.F., wearing special t-shirts for them. Even well over 800 years after the birth of the school’s patron, students and adults alike consistently “practice what they preach.” For more information, please contact us at (719) 423-8810, Members of the St. Francis Prep community wearing special t-shirts celebrating Pope Francis’ birthday, and benefitting Presentation Parish Soup Kitchen Members of the Presentation Parish Soup Kitchen staff, and members of the St. Francis Prep community Prep students, alumni, and faculty, including the organizer, Suzanne Camus (middle) at Prep’s Party for Our Friends with Special Needs
