FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com DECEMBER 24, 2015 • BUZZ • The Quens Courier 39 dining out Astoria’s Corner Hot Spot is Truthfully Amazing By Brianna Ellis Do you dine at restaurants where the scenery is equally as spectacular as your food? Tru Lounge is a bar and cafe that presents a breath-taking interior and Mediterranean cuisine. Upon your entrance, prepare to be enchanted by Tru’s luminous bar and wall art. The creative decor is comprised of tile and wood designs, soft lighting and a ceiling that mirrors the floor with contrasting black and white colors. If your eyes are already delighted, imagine how your stomach will rejoice. For a healthy starter, scoop up Tru’s salmon tartar ($15). The chopped salmon is served on a bed of fresh avocados, topped with baby arugula and thinly sliced cucumber. The shrimp cocktail is beautifully decorated in a cocktail glass with tomatoes, avocados and other nutritious greens. The shrimps are juicy and plump, as each bite uncovers a special sauce that Chef Danos Fili has crafted. Fili, who studied at the Le Cordon Bleu culinary arts school in Paris, France, enjoys producing unique recipes each week. His recent creation is the orange-glazed duck ($21), a favorite amongst diners. The orange glaze is a succulent sauce that enhances the tender duck slices. Extra sauce is sprinkled around the plate, adding to a colorful presentation of scallions, carrots and onions. Don’t forget to wash down your meal with a refreshing cocktail. The Blueberry High Life ($11) blends muddled blueberry, lime, sugar, vodka and cranberry juice. Come quench your thirst during Bottomless Brunch Weekends from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., where $15 brunch cocktails are unlimited for two hours. During Morning Happy Hour, all breakfast items are $6 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Try the waffles and chicken platter, served with mouth-watering fries that are seasoned with oregano. Crispy bacon slices are topped on fried chicken, juxtaposed with fluffy Belgium waffles and sweet maple syrup. Another sugary treat is the Milo Crepe ($9) stuffed with baked apples that have the perfect crunch, walnuts and caramel. Tru Lounge offers takeout, delivery and hosts private parties as well.
