They are a neutral third party that bridges the gap between the court system and facilities that help clients receive treatment. Chandler believes the EAC Network’s system is successful because it is able to explore any and all options in terms of getting help for their clients. They work with a wide range of treatment providers and other social service agencies to find the most appropriate services for their clients. “We also assist with the health needs of the criminal justice clients.” Chandler said. “We’re not only helping them get stable, clean and sober, we’re getting them connected to healthcare. We’re making sure that they know how to gain access to healthcare instead of avoiding doctors or using emergency rooms for primary care. Funding is almost always an issue for the EAC Network, since it is a non-profit organization. This is difficult because although the funding is constantly fluctuating, the population it serves is always in need. On top of that, the services the EAC Network provides are usually not something the general community knows about unless they are arrested “We can’t exactly set up information tables at fairs because we are targeting a criminal justice population, but that doesn’t make what we do any less significant. Doing this great work for a specific population has an impact. We’re turning people’s lives around.” Chandler said. The EAC Network has offices in Long Island, Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. For more information, visit www.eacinc.org.
