PAULSON, AND COURTESY OF ASEMBLYWOMAN NILY ROZIC Holiday cheer had people across Bayside and Whitestone grinning from ear to ear during various celebrations held during the weekend. On Dec. 4, Whitestone residents gathered for the community’s holiday tree lighting, which featured young dancers, carolers and appearances by local elected officials including City Councilman Paul Vallone and Assemblyman Ed Braunstein. The Queens Chamber of Commerce and its executive director, Tom Grech, were also recognized at the event for helping to fund the holiday lights along the local shopping strip. The holiday fun continued on Dec. 5 with the second Bayside Village Children’s Holiday Parade along Bell Boulevard, sponsored by the Bayside Village Business Improvement District and Councilman Vallone. Members of the New York Cosmos, champions of the North American Soccer League, and Mr. Met were among those who participated in the event, which culminated with a tree lighting ceremony near the Bayside Long Island Rail Road station. Queens Borough President Melinda Katz and Congresswoman Grace Meng joined Vallone at the event. Finally, on Dec. 6, Vallone, Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and City Councilman Barry Grodenchik gathered at the Bay Terrace Shopping Center to mark the first night of Hanukkah with the lighting of the center’s giant menorah. The Jewish festival of lights continues through Dec. 14.
