Cross Island YMCA hosting online holiday auction By Alina Suriel asuriel@queenscourier.com/@alinangelica Get your wallets ready for a good cause. Bidding has begun for the annual Cross Island YMCA winter holiday auction. The campaign fundraiser benefits youth, teens and adults of the community by supporting scholarships and financial aid so that no one is turned away from the facility because of an inability to pay. According to the YMCA, the funds are used to help community members in various capacities, such as assisting to send a child to camp or an after-school program, enabling a child to learn how to swim, or just supporting someone facing a difficult time in their life. Items online in the auction block include a four-night Royal Cruise Getaway for two, an $100 gift certificate for Nature’s Petal Florist, five one-hour personal training sessions at the Cross Island YMCA, tickets to a New York Yankees baseball game and two day-passes for the Adventureland theme park in Long Island. Anyone who refers at least two friends to bid will be entered to win a raffle for a free Samsung 32-inch Smart HDTV, Kindle, Ninja Blender or Scholastic Book Basket.
