Work begins on Fresh Meadows hotel BY MELIS A CHAN [email protected] Early construction has begun on a 12-story hotel in Fresh Meadows, according to a local community board. A controversial plan to build the 61-27 186th Street lodging house was originally shut down by the city in July because it did not have enough parking spaces, according to the Department of Buildings (DOB). It also exceeded the maximum allowed floor-area ratio for the lot. However, Developer Mayflower Business Group had 12 months to revise the plan and resubmit an application for the empty lot, where three homes once stood. The DOB approved new plans on September 16, issuing permits for excavation, foundation work and shoring, according to a department spokesperson. Foundation work on the site began within the last two weeks, residents and on-site employees said. “They are already bringing the big pipes inside,” said Yolanda Delacruz Gallagher, a local civic activist. “The residents can hear the sounds of the metal plunking over there.” Other residents reported seeing piles of beams recently being delivered, said Jim Gallagher Jr., president of the Fresh Meadows Homeowners Civic Association, Inc. and Yolanda’s husband. “I don’t know how the developer got approved for the additional parking, and I don’t see the need for the hotel at all,” he said. Gallagher said the area lacks subway access and is not near the borough’s airports. “This is a mostly residential community,” Gallagher said. “Are they going to visit and shop at Kohl’s? It doesn’t make sense.” Mayflower Business Group could not be reached. An architect listed for the developers did not return a request for comment. NO CABARET LICENSE FOR BIKINI BAR BY ANGY ALTAMIRANO [email protected] A Woodside gentlemen’s club has been given the thumbs down to bring more dancing girls to the stage. Community Board 1 voted on November 19 to deny NYC Gentlemen’s Club a cabaret license that would have allowed them to have more than two women working at the same time. Currently, no more than two girls are allowed to be entertaining at the same time. Board members said they connected the facility to crime allegedly taking place in the neighborhood shared with two other clubs. The community board also said they do not want the 26-50 Brooklyn Queens Expressway West establishment to expand. The Department of Consumer Affairs will now have to vote on the license for the Woodside bikini bar. In April, Community Board 1 voted against a liquor license recommendation for Racks, a restaurant and bar that owners sought to open at 19-26 Steinway Street in Astoria, on grounds its female servers will be wearing bikinis as uniforms. Later in July, the State Liquor Authority rejected that license application. • New Construction • Newborn – 4 Years • Age Specific Classrooms • Part-Time & Full-Time Options • Learning through Stimulated Play, Music, Dance, & Discovery • Meals Included Call for more information & Registration 718.838.9243 213-54 35th Avenue, Bayside www.littleapplepreschool.com Nail Fungus Treatment Stop Suffering From Unsightly Nails Pin PointeTM offers new hope to those who suffer from nail fungus 3 Single Treatment Procedure 3 Takes less than 10 minutes per foot 3 None of the risks of oral medications and easily outperforms topical creams.
