The Kingsland homestead is built in an 18th century, “Long Island half-house” style, mixing Dutch and English colonial elements. The Alley Pond Adventure Course, built by Project Adventure, consists of a zip line, a climbing and bouldering wall, a trust-fall station, swings, nets and balance platforms. Participants in the adventure course are encouraged to work as a team to create and apply solutions to obstacles. Highly trained and certified course facilitators guide each group throughout the course. FREE programs are available for individuals age eight and over on a firstcome, first-served basis on Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Registration begins a half an hour before each program. Memorial Lecture SUNDAY, NOV. 24, The Hollis Hills Jewish Center is hosting “Climate Change and Environmental Disasters: What to expect in America and the Middle East,” a Hiram and Berdie Kleinstein Memorial lecture. Changes in weather can take many forms: severe storms, water shortages, heat waves etc. What are the risks to coastal cities in the wake of climate change? What adaptation strategies can be taken? What are the ethical implications? How might climate change threaten national and international peace and stability? All of these questions will be answered by speaker Dr. Klaus Jacob, an expert in urban environmental disasters related to climate change and Emeritus research professor at Columbia University. LEGISLATIVE ACTS 2013 More than 30 borough politicians will hit the stage at Queens College later this month to raise funds for two of the college’s signature social service programs. Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College will present the musical comedy Legislative Acts 2013 in LeFrak Concert Hall at 7 p.m. on November 23. The event will benefit the Big Buddy program, which pairs homeless, at-risk children with college-student mentors, and Women and Work, which helps victims of domestic violence, single mothers, immigrants, displaced homemakers and downsized workers with employment. “We stand to capture a whole new cohort of performers who have just won elected office and are ready to jump right into the spirit of public service by taking center stage in our fundraiser,” said Jeff Rosenstock, Queens College assistant vice president for external and governmental affairs. Slated legislative performers include Leroy Comrie, Joe Crowley, Elizabeth Crowley, Michael DenDekker, Daniel Dromm, Julissa Ferreras, James Gennaro, Phillip Goldfeder, Melinda Katz, Ron Kim, Peter Koo, Karen Koslowitz, Rory Lancman, Helen Marshall, Gregory Meeks, Grace Meng, Francisco Moya, Jose Peralta, Audrey Pheffer, William Scarborough, Claire Shulman, Michael Simanowitz, Aravella Simotas, Toby Stavisky, Eric Ulrich, Peter Vallone, Sr., Jimmy Van Bramer, Nydia Velazquez, Mark Weprin, David Weprin, and Ruben Wills.
