An “all hands on deck” call was reportedly sent down from Albany to every county party in New York to start pounding the pavement for the top of the ticket. In Queens, the exhaustive get-out-the-vote effort has been on display recently as County Democratic headquarters in Forest Hills has been transformed into a virtual phone bank, with hundreds of volunteers ranging in age from those barely old enough to vote, to those who can remember pulling the lever for JFK. Doris, a spry 78-year-old volunteer couldn’t remember there being more phone bankers a week out from a Presidential election: “It’s like a well oiled machine with thousands of calls going out each hour to key battleground states.” Indeed, much of the Democrats’ work in Queens has been focused on reminding supporters to vote in Pennsylvania, which both sides see as a must win state in order to occupy the White House this coming January. You Will Feel GREAT With Our Queens Politics & More BY MIKE FRICCHIONE Comey’s letter bad for our democracy BY JULIAN PHILLIPS You can look through America’s storied history of politics and there is no doubt this current cycle of presidential politics has had more twists and turns – not to mention pure theatrics than any in recent memory. While the country is arguably divided over a number of issues and many are angry over our countries lawmakers, the letter FBI Director James Comey sent to Congress has sent our electoral process into a tail spin that we may never recover. The issue is not Hillary or Trump. Either candidate on the receiving end of a investigation that seemingly will not end before Nov. 8, sending voters to the polls without all the information they need to make a balanced and informed decision. The Clinton camp is crying foul and rightfully so. I would think the Trump camp would do the same If they were in this position. While recent polls indicate there has not been a major shift in how Americans will vote, what happens if Hillary wins and we find out after the fact she has committed a criminal offense? One voter I talked with said he was just going to “roll the dice” with his vote. This is not Las Vegas, and needless to say, there is a lot riding in the balance with whomever becomes our next commander-in-chief. If Americans were angry about the state of politics before. Everybody should be angry now, no matter who you support. The American voters deserve much better than this. Julian Phillips is an award-winning news anchor, host and author.
