FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.queenscourier.com OCTOBER 31, 2013 • THE QUEENS COURIER 41 Obituary Bertha “Bailey” Seltzer BY ANGY ALTAMIRANO aaltamirano@queenscourier.com Bertha “Bailey” Seltzer, a beloved mother, grandmother and longtime Elmhurst resident, passed away on Monday, October 21. She was 95 years old. The youngest of four children, Seltzer was born in Downtown Manhattan and later moved to Elmhurst with her family in 1961. She was married to Sidney Seltzer, who passed away in 1997, for 58 years. She is remembered as a loving and caring housewife and homemaker who took care of all things related to her children and family. Seltzer was well known for her cooking, especially her brisket and matzoh ball soup. “She took such a sincere interest in everything that we did, kept our stomachs full, was unbelievably thoughtful, and always made us laugh,” said her grandson Mike Breskin in his eulogy with his sister, Nicole, during their grandmother’s service on Tuesday, October 22. “Neither of us ever understood why other kids wouldn’t be totally excited about having to make a trip to see their grandparents because we both agreed we had the coolest grandma in the world.” Seltzer is survived by daughters Linda Breskin and Elaine Muff, sons Alan and Dan Seltzer, and three grandchildren. She was buried at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont in Nassau County. “She was very family oriented,” said Alan. “To me she was giving until the end.” MEMORIALS BY PARKSIDE Your Expression, Our Creativity • Footstones • Inscriptions • Monuments • Restorations • Mausoleums • Pre-planning A monument is the opportunity to perpetuate your memories of an especially loved and revered family member or friend.
