Close to 300 friends, artists and leaders of the cultural community gathered to honor philanthropists Shelley and Donald Rubin, and international contemporary artists Rirkrit Tiravanija. Shelley and Donald founded the Rubin Museum of Art and the Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation, supporting innovative worldwide uses of art and culture. Tiravanija is known for his exploration of the social role of the artist and promoted interactivity with the audience. He also played a large role in the Socrates’ 2012 exhibition, “Civic Action: A Vision for Long Island City.” During the benefit gala, guests enjoyed cocktails, live music, seafood cuisine and boat rides. A “tree wood-inspired” photo booth was also installed at the edge of the water where guests took photos together. Orly Genger, a Socrates alumni artist, also created 10 sculptures, each a unique colored cast glass in the form of a knotted rope, for this year’s benefit gala exclusively for Socrates Sculpture Park. 1 4 Wyckoff’s 17th Annual Golf and Tennis fundraiser On Monday September 30 Wyckoff Heights Medical Center held its 17th Annual Golf and Tennis fundraiser at the beautiful Old Westbury Golf and Country Club.
