MILESTONE BY RACHEL LANDAU Gleason’s Funeral Home celebrated 100 years this past weekend with a special Mass at St. Luke’s Church in Whitestone. Community leaders, including former state senator Frank Padavan, spoke to 100 years of Gleason’s salience in the community, dedicated service and compassion. Following the Mass, an intimate reception was held. DONATION BY RACHEL LANDAU Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village recently welcomed Frank Cipolla and Anthony Lolli to the school’s in-house television studio. Christ the King alumnus Frank Cipolla (Class of ’76) has worked for over 30 years behind and in front of the camera. He has had numerous roles in broadcasting journalism throughout his career, namely, anchor, reporter and morning show host on a variety of local stations in the New York-New Jersey area. While Cipolla was a student at Christ the King, the broadcasting club was in its infancy. After making some inquiries, he found out that despite a burgeoning broadcasting club and class, there was no broadcasting scholarship in place for students interested in journalism-communications field at a higher level. Cipolla contacted Anthony Lolli, founder and CEO of Rapid Realty NYC, to make a donation. The $3,000 will allow monthly installments to the Christ the King High School broadcasting class and broadcasting club. Lolli’s donation also makes possible the “Mary and Vincent Cipolla Abe and Eleanor Schochet Broadcast Journalism Award,” named after Anthony Cipolla and his wife Lauren’s parents. The first Cipolla Schochet scholarship will be awarded to a graduating member of the class of 2014 in June. Lolli every year will find one worthy student who has the potential for a great career in broadcasting. The introduction to broadcasting class at Christ the King is responsible for the weekly news report on the school’s website. The broadcasting class’ TV station WCKR is linked to all TVs in school. Directors (L to R) Yessenia Melenciano, Anna Golden, Thomas A. Golden, John A. Golden, Vincent Carey. Former senator Frank Padavan, John Golden, Tom Golden. Sarah Jane Roman and Elias Roman, co-founder of Songza and a Queens Courier Rising Star, welcomed Ethan Joseph Roman. He was 8 pounds, 12 ounces. Congratulations!
