Meet and Greet your local politicians Farmers’ Market Jamaica is sponsored by Greater Jamaica Development Corporation Jamaica’s First Ever Harvest Festival Pie Contest to be Held Saturday, October 18th October 2014 (Queens, NY) – Can you hear the rumblings? The clatter of pie tins? The smacking of flour on rolling pins? Throughout Jamaica, home bakers are getting ready for the first ever Harvest Festival Pie Contest this coming Saturday, October 18th. The contest will be held at Jamaica’s Down to Earth Farmers Market, a market sponsored by the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, located on 160th Street at Jamaica Avenue. Cash prizes will be given for the best Apple Pies and Sweet Potato Pies. The judging begins at 2 pm. This year marks the 13th Annual Harvest Festival, an event that brings the Jamaica community together to celebrate autumn through food, music, art, kids activities, and more. In addition to the Pie Contest, the festival will feature line dancing to live music by the country western band, Savannah Sky. The Federation of Black Cowboys will host storytelling and a rodeo demonstration. AND kids of all ages are invited to make a scarecrow, decorate pumpkins, and get a fun face painting by Happy Tea Clown. The Harvest Festival is free and open to the public from 11 am to 4 pm. Please see the attached schedule for the full line-up of events. Jamaica’s Down to Earth Farmers Market takes place every Friday and Saturday, from 8:30 am-4:00 pm, through November 21/22, 2014. It is one of the longest-running farmers markets in New York City. Every week, local farmers offer fresh, seasonal produce, and often the market hosts free cooking demonstrations and more.
