Three years ago, Queens resident Christos Raptis established IASO Physical Therapy, an organization that specializes in visiting patients and conducting physical therapy in the comfort of their own homes. As a graduate of Stony Brook University and a seasoned physical therapist himself, Raptis knew firsthand how many times people simply could not make it to their therapy sessions because they were physically unable to do so. “It’s incredible how many people get the prescription from their doctors and aren’t able to follow up for therapy,” said physical therapist and director of marketing Felicia Vinci. “We thought that this would be a great way to reach out to those people. We bring all the equipment they might need to their homes, and provide one-on-one therapy for them.” IASO Physical Therapy focuses more on the elderly and treats all kinds of different diagnoses, including neurological problems, such as Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, and various orthopedic issues. Each member of the highly skilled team specializes and has background in many areas of physical therapy, and unlike standard facilities that have relatively short hours, Iaso therapists are able to visit their patients at almost any time of the patient’s choosing. Another benefit to Iaso’s method is the personal attention they give. Through hour-long sessions of one-on-one interaction with a physical therapist, Iaso officials claim patients are able to make more progress faster than they might at a standard facility. “When your patients can’t get to you regularly, it greatly interrupts their progress,” said Vinci. “That’s part of what inspires us to do this. I think that being able to reach out to those who otherwise wouldn’t receive therapy and making a change is the most rewarding thing that any therapist could ask for.” IASO Physical Therapy operates primarily in Queens, Manhattan, Nassau County and parts of Brooklyn, and is planning on expanding.
