Bibi & Jd’s Barbershop, a new barbershop
in Woodside, celebrated it’s grand
opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony
on Th ursday, Sept. 18.
Supported by Th omas Grech, the CEO
of the Queens Chamber of Commerce,
and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer,
owners Jose Campos and Esmerlin
Ramirez celebrated the opening of their
barbershop, a business they created during
the COVID-19 pandemic using their
life’s savings.
“Th e project comes to life in times of
COVID-19 and is born from the owners’
strong desire to contribute to the local
community’s economic recovery eff orts in
Woodside,” Campos said. “We are committed
to creating a place where everyone,
regardless of who they are, what they look
like and where they come from, are made
to feel welcomed and appreciated.”
Queens has been reeling from the economic
aff ects of the COVID-19 crisis. As
such, Th ursday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony
was the fi rst the Queens Chamber of
Commerce had orchestrated in nine months.
“We are very happy to be here today.
Th is is a great immigrant success story.
Th is is a Queens success story,” Grech
said. “We are seeing signs of life. We are
starting. We are not at full power yet, but
we are getting there.”
Van Bramer applauded the owners of
the new business for opening up in such
an uncertain time.
“It’s an act of courage to open a small
business at any time, but particularly right
now,” the councilman said. “I want to
thank you for investing in Woodside.”
Th e barbershop, which is centered
around customer service, according to
its owners, is located at 6325 Roosevelt
