One was the family get-together and the moving prayers for the New Year, and the other – totally different, yet making me feel so good – was seeing the joy our company gave to the outstanding Top Women in Business on Staten Island and the packed room saluting our Kings of Queens. Life seems so serious so often and I take great pleasure in seeing our honorees’ smiles, laughter and even cries of joy. Last week I had the opportunity to invite men of influence in Queens to walk the red carpet as they were officially anointed and elevated to being a king! The event has become so successful that my favorite catering hall Terrace on the Park was packed with guests. Almost 800 people rode their elegant elevators to have an opportunity to network with hundreds of business leaders. What I love about our business events is the openness of everyone to meet new people and relish the evening with friends and family. It just doesn’t get better than that! Then, on Saturday, I had the best time taking my 9-year-old Blake and 6-year-old Jonah to the Mets- Yankees game at the sold out Citifield. I had never been to the Hyundai Club to watch the game. It’s on the field level and it offered a lavish buffet with our front row seats. The food varied from Nathan’s hot dogs, chicken, sliced beef and ham, mac and cheese and a salad bar, but my treats were the endless bags of peanuts in the shell and big, fat, salty pretzels. I was in pig’s heaven! The Mets got clobbered by the Yankees in the early innings but it didn’t hinder our joy in being there. We cheered and we slapped the McDonald’s plastic bats and made noise to add to the roar of the crowd. Fortunately, our seats in the midday heat were positioned so the hot sun didn’t hit us directly. We were in great seats and it was a great game for me to share with “my great boys!” To finish off the week, it was my joy to spend Saturday night at the new Night Market for Flea and Food on the backlot of the Kaufman Astoria Studios. My son Josh and daughter Elizabeth created it as an addition to the LIC Flea and Food market that runs every weekend. I sat at the outdoor garden seats of the Astor Room restaurant contiguous to the market and watched with delight the swarms of people flowing into the Night Market. I must admit I shopped but ended up dining at the Astor Room because I love their gazpacho with shrimp and their spectacularly juicy hamburger with crispy French fries. The Night Market will run for three more Saturday nights. Try it; you too will love the experience!
