He has been active in industry organizations for more than 20 years to continually keep abreast of the latest changes and trends in the industry. Through his long-term involvement in one of these organizations, the Mortgage Bankers Association of NY, Mr. Saitta was able to take a leadership role and successfully chair the Residential Division of the Mortgage Bankers Association of NY for the past year. As a member of the board of governors, he will not only oversee and assist the leaders of the Residential and Conference committees, but will also help find leadership amongst the association’s ranks for these important committees. Ribbon cut on new Atlantic Bank in Astoria Atlantic Bank, a division of New York Commercial Bank, recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newest location, the Steinway branch. Attendees included management and staff, along with local business owners and political dignitaries. All were on hand to welcome members of the community to the branch and to mark this special occasion. Alexandra Laskari, branch manager, cut the ribbon to kick off the week of celebrations. Knights Council installs officers in Douglaston St. Anastasia Knights of Columbus Council #5911 held its installation of officers at the St. Anastasia Annex in Douglaston on Sept. 15. The organization that is dedicated to serving the church, the community and Knights of Columbus. At this same event, Grand Knight Frederick R. Bedell Jr. presented Msgr. Anthony Sherman with two plaques from the New York Blood Center for running the parish blood drive with the Knights. It’s a girl! Adam, Alison and Jack Bloom announced the birth of Zoe Campbell Bloom, who came into the world at 6:01 a.m. on July 14, weighing 9 pounds, 3 ounces and measuring 20 inches. Prendergast will take the podium at 8:45 a.m. and address guests about the state of the nation’s largest public transportation system. Prendergast started his career with the Chicago Transit Authority and has 30 years of experience in mass transit. Having previously served as Long Island Rail Road president before departing for other opportunities, Prendergast rejoined the organization in 2009 as New York City Transit president; he was later appointed interim director of the entire MTA in 2013, and was later named chairman and CEO following reorganization. During his tenure, Prendergast committed toward making service and technology improvements throughout the entire MTA system while maintaining a balanced budget. The MTA employs more than 48,000 people, has an annual operating budget of $6 billion and invests $2.5 billion annually toward capital improvements.
