Schneps Communications founder Victoria Schneps-Yunis said that those being honored were the toast of the borough of Queens. “These are the people who make a difference in our community every day,” Schneps-Yunis said. Schneps-Yunis commended her son, Schneps Communications co-publisher Joshua Schneps, on bringing the media company into the 21st century with the launch of the new Queens Courier website at QNS.com. “Events are a big part of what we do, and we hope you’ll stay connected with us,” Josh Schneps said. NY1 News anchor and reporter Angi Gonzalez served as the emcee for the event, which raised thousands for St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital and Project Eliminate, a Kiwanis club initiative that aims to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Fox 5 meteorologist Mike Woods and Miss USA National 2015 Katherine McQuade were the guests of honor. New York City Public Advocate Letitia James and City Councilman Peter Koo attended the night’s VIP cocktail hour. Both provided certificates for each of the kings, along with Senator Toby Stavisky and Senator Jose Peralta. Public Advocate James said that The Queens Courier and Schneps Communications have continued to be successful despite major transformations in the media industry. “I want to commend The Queens Courier for adapting to the times while staying true to its roots,” James said, “for continuing to provide the substantive and important local news that communities in Queens depend upon.” Councilman Koo said the Kings were part of the reason Queens is such a desirable area for commerce and tourism. “Each one of you—professionals in your own discipline, some are bankers, some are lawyers, some real estate brokers—together make Queens successful,” Koo said. Business leaders in real estate, construction, banking and other industries were a part of the event, which was attended by more than 700 people. Many of the honorees were appreciative of the honors they received. “It’s a very lovely accolade to be honored with a lot of dignitaries and powerbrokers higher on the food chain than myself,” honoree George Greco said. Lawyer James Mattone said he was especially honored to be a part of the event because he is a big fan of The Queens Courier and reads it every week. “I’m very proud to be nominated as a King of Queens,” said Mattone, who runs the Law Office of James Mattone in Bayside, “Vicki does a great job.” Solomon Davydov, a broker and owner of Exit Realty First Choice in Fresh Meadows, was honored with his brother, Roman, and he thought the event was a beautiful night. “We feel honored, my brother and I, to be chosen for a strong organization such as the Kings of Queens,” Solomon Davydov said.
