Her hobbies include scrapbooking, journaling, reading and joining as many clubs as possible at school. She just began her senior year of high school and is hoping to make it a great one. PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND AND CAREER: Batista has volunteered at the Poppenhusen Library and Poppenhusen Institute in College Point, and interned at the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS). Her internship consisted of doing extensive research of the College Point neighborhood in order to assess the business and economic environments of the district. Batista now interns at the College Point Board of Trade and hopes to aid Tom Palmer, the chairman, in ensuring that College Point thrives as a business district and neighborhood. She hopes to pursue an urban planning program at a City University of New York. MOTIVATION TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE COMMUNITY: After witnessing how dedicated the employees of SBS were to communities and businesses in New York City, Batista found that she was nurturing a passion for helping her community. She fi nds motivation in seeing the hard work that local community members put into aiding their communities. BIGGEST CHALLENGE: Batista’s young age is the biggest challenge she currently faces because it can alter how people view her professionally. She does not let other’s perceptions of her youth deter her from trying to succeed, and as she gains experience she fi nds that she is gaining more respect. GREATEST ACHIEVEMENTS: One of Batista’s greatest achievements was being elected the student body president of St. Agnes for the school year of 2015-16. She is also very proud of the internship she completed over the summer at SBS, especially a presentation she successfully delivered to the staff of the Neighborhood Development Division.
