The multicultural event includes two days of Dragon Boat Racing, a variety of performances and a multi-ethnic food court. The event is free and races will be held on Meadow Lake within the park, rain or shine. Bring the entire family and enjoy as over 170 teams and more than 2,000 participants compete with each other and celebrate the Year of the Rabbit. From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. BRING THE FAMILY SATURDAY, JULY 13 Families and children are welcome to join local artists in Socrates Sculpture Park for a summer series of sculpture workshops. Each week’s workshop will have a theme and teach a certain skill. The workshop for July 13 is “Plaster Casting the Fantastic,” which will teach participants to use clay and plaster to make fantastical objects from a mold that can be painted and decorated. SUNDAY, JULY 14 Few experiences compare to being on the open water in New York City, which is why the Urban Rangers are taking New Yorkers out canoeing in Bayswater Park. Trained Urban Rangers will meet at Beach 35th Street and Beach Channel Drive at 1 p.m. for a two-hour tour of local water ways. This is an intermediate canoeing day, so some experiences is recommended, as participants will be on both the gentle waters of protected lakes and the challenging open waters of rivers and bays. All equipment is provided and the event is free. The Urban Rangers will host a basic canoeing program the day before in the Bronx for those who want an extra day’s experience. THURSDAY, JULY 25 Hip to Hip Theater Company kicks off the fi rst show of its seventh season of Shakespeare in the Park performances. The fi rst show will be “Love Labor’s Lost” at Crocheron Park in Bayside at 7:30 p.m. All shows are free and will tour around Queens through August 15. Bring a blanket, the family, some snacks and enjoy the show. Children’s programming will begin 30 minutes before each show. A full calendar can be found at www.hiptohip.org. FRIDAY, JULY 26 Come join the fun at the 35th Annual Thunderbird American Indian Pow Wow at the Queens Farm Museum. Over 40 Indian nations will be represented at New York’s oldest and largest pow wow, which will feature three days of intertribal dance competitions Rock n’ Roll House Party that the public is invited to. The event is held in the apple orchard on the farm grounds and will feature a large selection of Native American arts, crafts, jewelry and food. SATURDAY, JULY 27 Alley pond Environmental Center is hosting two days for children to play with sand and create works of art.
