Two people fatally
shot in Jamaica
Police are investigating a shooting
in Jamaica early on the morning of
Wednesday, July 5, that left two people
dead and another injured.
At 3:38 a.m. on July 5, offi cers from the
103rd Precinct responded to a call of a
female shot in front of a home on 170th
Street near 107th Avenue.
Upon arriving at the location, offi cers
found three victims: a 27-year-old woman
who had sustained a gunshot wound to
the head; a 28-year-old man shot multiple
times in the back; and a 32-year-old man
who was shot in the right arm.
EMS units responded to the scene
and pronounced the female victim
dead. The 28-year-old man was rushed
to Jamaica Hospital, but later died of
his injuries. The 32-year-old man is
currently listed in stable condition at
Jamaica Hospital.
As The Courier went to press
Wednesday aft ernoon, the identities of
the deceased had been withheld pending
family notifi cation, and no arrests had
been made.

Cops say Corona stabber
was off his meds
Police have arrested a mentally unstable
Corona man who stabbed a stranger
while he was off of his medication.
On Th ursday, June 29, at 10:20
p.m., Steven Ponce, 30, of 104th Street
approached a 30-year-old man in front
of 37-68 104th St. Ponce then proceeded
to stab the victim multiple times in the
back, torso, neck and arms.
Th e victim was transported to Elmhurst
Hospital and is in stable condition.
On Saturday, July 1, Ponce was arrested
and charged with one count of attempted
murder, two counts of assault and one
count of criminal possession of a weapon.
According to police, Ponce suff ers
from schizophrenia and was apparently
off of his medication at the time of
the attack.

Four sought for two
Flushing robberies
Police are searching for four males
who robbed two victims in separate
early-morning capers in Flushing last
month.
On Tuesday, June 27, at 5:10 a.m.,
a 38-year-old male victim was walking
to his parked car when he was
approached by fi ve males in front of
132-18 41st Ave., it was reported to
the 109th Precinct. Th e group of men
grabbed the victim, held down his arms
and went through his pockets, removing
cash and fl eeing the scene. Th e victim
sustained pain to his torso as a
result of the incident and was treated at
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.
At 5:50 a.m. that same morning, a
62-year-old male victim was sitting at a
table inside of a McDonald’s located at
30-01 Stratton St. when one of the perpetrators
grabbed the victim’s unattended
cellphone. Th e victim exited the location
and chased aft er the man when he
was approached by the four other perpetrators,
who claimed they would help
him get his phone back. Th e group of
men then told him that he would have to
pay them to retain his property.
When the victim refused, one of the
males struck the victim in the head
with an unknown object. Th e group of
men then attempted to remove the victim’s
wallet before fl eeing the scene. Th e
victim sustained a fracture to his right
eye socket and was treated at Flushing
Hospital.
Police arrested one of the individuals
involved in the incidents, identifi ed
as Darnell Williams, 16, of Laurelton.
Williams was charged with robbery and
assault.
Th e four unapprehended males are
described as black males, approximately
18 to 25 years old.
