QED Astoria is hosting Press Conference: A Comedy Show, where they let the audience ask the questions! After these comics perform their jokes, they turn the microphones to the crowd, giving you the chance to ask them any question you want about their material or who they are as a person. Tickets to the event are $7, and any more information about the event can be found at https://qedastoria. com/products/press-conference 4 or by calling 347- 451-3873. 7:30 to 9 p.m., 27-16 23rd Ave. 2 The Museum of the Moving Image will be kicking off Film Movement: A 15th Anniversary Celebration by hosting the premiere of the Israeli film “In Between (Bar Bahar).” The film tells the story of three women who live in Tel Aviv and deal with the conflicts between tradition and modernity, citizenship and culture, fealty and freedom. Shlomi Elkabetz, producer of the film, will also be in attendance. Tickets are $15 dollars, or free for members, and also includes admission to the museum for the day. Questions about the film screening can be sent to members@ movingimagine.us. 7 p.m., 36-01 35th Ave. Crocheron Park becomes a galaxy far, far away as NYC Parks presents Movie Under the Stars: “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Watch as Jyn Erso and her team of rebels plot to steal the Death Star’s blueprints in this Star Wars spinoff, with the unique perspective of being under the stars! There will be a limited number of chairs available, and blankets can be brought to sit on the grass. Make sure to arrive early as this free event comes on a first-come, firstserved basis. Call 718-393-7370 with any questions about this event. 8 to 10 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 214-41 34th Ave. FRIDAY, JUNE 9: 4 In celebration of the Queens Pride Parade’s 25th anniversary, the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives at LaGuardia Community College will be presenting “The Lavender Line: Coming Out in Queens” at the Queens Museum in Flushing. The multimedia exhibit will showcase the history of the LGBTQ community from the 1990s to present. The Lavender Line will also showcase how the Queens Pride Parade grew from a small community event in 1993 to the large festival it has grown into today. 6 to 8 p.m., New York City Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park. SATURDAY, JUNE 10: 5 Looking to work on your composting skills? Come to Queens Botanical Garden to learn how to make a batch of compost tea. Compost tea, which is used to help create beneficial bacteria and fungi that is found in compost, is applied to plants as a foliar spray or soil soak. There will also be edible tea and cookies. The event costs $6 and is for people with some level of experience in composting. Contact Queens Botanical Garden at 718-886-3800 with any questions about the event. 10 a.m. to noon, 43-50 Main St. 7 The NYFAC Foundation will be hosting their Smoke & Heat BBQ and Chili Cook-Off at the VFW Post 260 in Broad Channel. This amateur cooking contest of chicken, ribs and beef will be benefiting two causes, one helping those with autism, and the other benefiting veterans in the area. Along with food, the event will have live music, carnival rides and activities for kids that are both fun and safe for those with autism. The handmade tote bags, created by artist Hale Berk, are punny, feminist-inspired, and fun! Along with selling her own premade bags, Berk will also be taking custom orders.
