Ridgewood Bank off ers plenty of free events Summer is the time when calendars quickly fi ll up with fun things to do. Before yours is full, you might want to check the calendar of events happening at the 34 Ridgewood Savings Bank branches throughout the fi ve boroughs and Westchester. “Being an active part of the community means going beyond just working there,” said Leonard Stekol, President and COO of Ridgewood Savings Bank. “It means being proactive in searching for ways to be helpful.” Ridgewood Savings Bank hosts dozens of events throughout the year, including home buyers workshops, fi nancial literacy seminars, document shredding events and community appreciation days. “Th ese free events really benefi t the residents of our communities,” continued Mr. Stekol. “Learning how to manage your money, navigate the home buying process and protect your identity are things that are important to all of us.” At the Home Buyers Workshops, members of the community have the opportunity to connect with experts who will answer their questions and explain the home buying process in detail. Financial Literacy Seminars off er fi nancial education and include professional advice on how to save and manage your money. Attendees discover the benefi ts of using bank savings and checking services in a workshop setting. To help fi ght identity theft , Ridgewood has partnered with USA Shred to host Shred Events where participants can securely destroy their personal items at participating branch locations. No appointment is necessary, but there is a two-box limit per household. Ridgewood Bank is proud to host Community Appreciation Days on Saturdays throughout the year. From free shaved ices and popcorn to the bank’s popular “Wheel of Prizes,” which neighbors can spin to win, these events are fun for the whole family. One such Community Appreciation Day takes place this Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the main branch of Ridgewood Bank, located at the corner of Myrtle and Forest avenues in Ridgewood. Th e franchise will open the new addition at 26-14 Jackson Ave., Court Square Blog fi rst reported. Th e retail space is located within Dutch LIC, a mixed-use building with condos. Th e space used to be occupied by the development’s sales department. Dan Shallit, director of store development for Starbucks, said the neighborhood has “been a target for us for many years.” “Finding the perfect location which balances the third place environment (room for people to relax, lounge and enjoy the best coff ee with a good book, Kindle or the oldschool newspaper) and the convenience for all the folks commuting or just using mass transportation has been our challenge,” he said in an email.
