54 THE QUEENS COURIER • BUZZ • JUNE 8, 2017 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT WWW.QNS.COM Colleges scout players at Eastern New York Premier League’s Girls College Showcase Th e Eastern New York Premier League (ENYPL), the oldest continuous Premier League in the United States, held a Girls College Showcase on Sunday, June 4 at Kissena Park in Fresh Meadows, following in the footsteps of last year’s Inaugural Boys College Showcase. Th e Girls Showcase was scouted by coaches from seven diff erent college programs. “Th e performance level of the players was very high,” said Andreas Touros, chairperson of ENYPL. “All college coaches were very pleased with the high quality of players competing who play in the ENYPL.” If you missed the girls, you can still catch the boys who will play Sunday, June 11, at Kissena Park, with Boys- Under-19 kicking off at 12:30 p.m. and Boys-Under-17 playing at 2:45 p.m. Th e college showcases are hosted by the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA), which unlike other college showcases, does not charge the players a penny for the use of the fi eld or uniforms and offi cials. sports Photo courtesy of Eastern New York Premier League The girls at the ENYPL Girls College Showcase Many RA Flyers become two-time Diocesan champions Runners for the St. Margaret/ Resurrection Ascension Flyers earned medals during the Diocesan Championships on Sunday, May 21. Th e team’s fi rst two-time Diocesan champs were the Kelly brothers, senior Owen for his running long jump and bantam Andrew for his 800-meter run. Both Owen and Andrew won for these same events indoors. Joining the Kelly brothers as two-time Diocesan champs were junior boys Ricky Hubert and Kacper Niepokoj, who won for their 800-medley relay. Th ey won with fi rst-time Diocesan champs Victor Ostling and Sean Reilly. Also winning their second Diocesan title this season are novice girls Caroline Gordon and bantam girl Madeline Maurceri, along with Olaia Higgins for their 400-meter medley run. Th e Flyers’ other fi rst place winners were peewees Sadie Donahue for her long jump and Olivia Santoro for her 50-meter dash. Receiving silver for their second-place performance was bantam boy Kevin Isca for his 50-meter dash. Earning bronze for third place were senior boy Nicholas Catapano for his 800-meter run and novice boys Ethan Joseph, Anthony Pedicini, Gavin Walsh and Frank Santoro for their 400-meter meter relay. Also being awarded the bronze medal for fourth place fi nish was senior boy John Boger and bantam boy Th omas Fischer for their long jumps, as well as Conn Reilly for coming in fi ft h place in the 800-meter run. Th e Flyers coaches are equally proud of peewee boy James Gordon for his 50-meter dash, bantam boys Josiah Boulet and Unai Higgins for their 100-meter dash, novice girl Caira Reilly for her 400- meter run, and Athelia and Elias Mulligan for their 200-meter run.
