Flushing man admits to killing his girlfriend and stuffi ng her body inside her car A Flushing man pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges onMarch 30, for stabbing his girlfriend to death and hiding her body in the trunk of her own car, prosecutors announced. Luis Zambrano, 30, of 150th Street faces at least 25 years behind bars after entering a guilty plea to fi rst-degree manslaughter in the September 2015 murder of Angie Escobar, 28, according to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Escobar was last seen alive on the night of Sept. 4, 2015, leaving her home on 221st Street in Queens Village. On or about Sept. 6, authorities said, Zambrano repeatedly stabbed Escobar about the body, causing her death. Nearly a week after Escobar left her home, police found her decomposing body inside the trunk of her 2004 Nissan Maxima left abandoned near the intersection of 22nd Avenue and Murray Street. Police obtained information that Zambrano had been seen driving the vehicle near his home. Detectives eventually tracked down and located Zambrano on Sept. 18 in Dalesville, Virginia. He was subsequently extradited back to Queens to face murder charges. “A young mother’s life was senselessly cut short by the man who professed to love her,” Brown said. “To hide his actions, he hid her bloody body in the trunk of her own car and then fl ed the state, only to be caught a few days later. He will now face a lengthy term behind bars when sentenced next month.” Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth C. Holder ordered Zambrano to return to court on April 19 for sentencing. Along with the 25 year sentence for his manslaughter plea, Zambrano faces up to three additional years behind bars for pleading guilty to an unrelated attempted burglary, Brown noted. 114TH PRECINCT Astoria Crook attempted to steal 11-year-old’s phone in Astoria, cops say Police are asking for help to identify a man who tried to rob an 11-year-old on an Astoria street last Thursday. Subway mess in western Queens set off by bandit who tried to rob a teenager The commuting nightmare that froze four major subway lines in western Queens during the morning rush hour on April 5was sparked by an alleged cellphone thief who went on the run and onto the tracks. MTA New York City Transit described the “series of events” in a long post on its Facebook page on the morning of April 5. At about 7:40 a.m., according to the MTA, the suspect grabbed a cellphone out of the hands of a 13-year-old boy while riding a Manhattan bound M train approaching the Northern Boulevard station. Seconds later, according to the MTA, the suspect was seen running off the platform and down the catwalk eastbound toward the 65th Street station. Upon being notifi ed of the incident, the MTA rerouted all Manhattan-bound M and R local trains to the express tracks; all eastbound trains were advised to proceed through the tunnel with caution. Moments later, MTA dispatchers received a report from the operator of a Jamaica-bound F train indicating that he heard something strike the side of his train near the 65th Street station. The train operator then stopped the train and went out to inspect the roadbed. In doing so, he discovered a man who was later identifi ed as the alleged phone thief lying next to the westbound express track. The thief had been sideswiped by the train and suffered minor injuries. Power was then cut to the third rail, and all train traffi c was brought to a halt on the Queens Boulevard Line, as police and EMS units came to the thief’s assistance. Two nearby trains were stalled while the rescue took place. The thief was taken into custody by police and brought to Elmhurst Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Charges against him are pending, police sources told QNS. After the man was removed, service was restored on the E, F, M and R lines, but with delays.
