Th e dinner/ dance benefi tted the organization named for the Sicilian immigrant who went on to become one of the NYPD’s most diligent fi ghters against organized crime in the early 20th century. Th e group now promotes Italian heritage and culture in schools in both the U.S. and Sicily. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul received special honors at this year’s gala, as she was presented with the Excelsior Award. Also honored at the event were Judge Joseph Bellacosa, Assemblyman Michael DenDekker, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, NYPD Chief of Department Carlos Gomez, Lieutenant Tony Giorgio, Peter Florey, Leonard D’Amico and Loreto D’Aiuto.
