FRANCIS PREP RESCHEDULES SPECIAL MOVIE SCREENING On Thursday, March 30th, St. Francis Prep will host a special presentation of the movie, “The Sultan and the Saint.” This is rescheduled from the original February 9th date that was snowed out. According to the film’s website, “The Sultan and the Saint film tells one of the great, lost stories from history. Set in a past period of East-West conflict, it speaks with urgency to our present. Two men of faith, one a traveling Christian preacher, the other the ruler of a Muslim Empire, bucked a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground. It is the story of Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, and their meeting on a bloody battlefield during the period of Christian– Muslim conflict known as the Crusades.” St. Francis Prep is proud to be hosting a premiere on Thursday, March 30th in the school’s Brother Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. Unity Productions Foundation (UPF) is pleased to be partnering with the Franciscan Action Network to help market the premieres nationwide and bring diverse audiences. St. Francis Prep is inviting stakeholders from its own community, ranging from students and families, to alumni, to the members of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn. Prep will also be reaching out to local mosques and inviting members of Queens’ Islamic community. According to Prep’s Assistant Principal, Joseph Castellano, “We are showing the film in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding. We are inviting students, parents and guardians, alumni, and members of local Muslim communities. This is a great opportunity for us to continue in our Franciscan tradition of being living instruments of peace. The evening begins at 7:00PM. There will be refreshments in the East Lobby. The film will be shown in the Brother Ralph Clifford Memorial Auditorium. We will have brief introductions at the beginning and an opportunity for a short discussion at the end of the film. The program will conclude by 9:00PM. St. Francis Prep invites all in the community to join us for this film.
