The company started its original roots on the lower east side of New York where most of the Jewish population was located. In the early 1900’s many of the Jewish immigrants who migrated to the lower east side joined social and burial societies. The reason for this was that many Jewish families worried about having a place to rest upon their demise. The Jewish population also joined these societies because it was a social network to be with fellow Jews and make friends with one another. As this transition took place many Jewish funeral homes were established and they developed long lasting relationships with these burial societies. Parkside Memorial Chapels began operations back in 1916 by Jack S. Garlick and was known as Garlick Funeral Home. He developed a relationship with the foremost organization The Workman’s Circle Arbeter Ring. In 1950 Jack S. Garlick asked my grandfather, Larry Goldstein, to join the firm. In 1952 through Larry’s efforts a new location in the Highbridge section of The Bronx was built. In 1955 a second location was added in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. As the Jewish population continued to move from the lower east side Larry Goldstein saw a need for further expansion and in 1961 a third location was built in the Rego Park section of Queens. In 1971 they acquired a location on Flatbush Avenue in the Mill Basin/Marine Park section of Brooklyn. That same year my father Edward Goldstein and Irving Sherman took over the operation of the funeral homes and changed the name to Parkside Memorial Chapels. In 1994 I was invited to join my family in the operation of Parkside Memorial Chapels. I have noticed that as the years have passed it has become obvious that the needs of the families that we serve started to change and that service was of the utmost importance. In 2010 we continued to make many changes for the future including the renovation of our chapels, servicing our families more closely and implementing some technological advances such as internet broadcasting and providing our families with a DVD recording of the funeral service free of charge. We also have a new state of the art website which our families can use to gather information and contact us. In 2009 my brother Jordan Goldstein joined the “family business” and both have become very active in the community. The owners and staff at Parkside have always prided themselves as being one of the only family owned and independently operated Jewish funeral chapels serving the Jewish community of New York. “Our company treats everyone as if they are a member of our own family”. At Parkside Memorial Chapels we continue to strive to provide the same service with care that my grandfather and my family have provided for almost a century. Parkside Memorial Chapels is located at 98-60 Queens Blvd. in Rego Park. For further information please call 718-896-9000. ADVERTORIAL
