During the event, Ferreras honored recently appointed Deputy Borough President Melva Miller, who also delivered the keynote address. Other honorees included founding principal of P.S. 330 LaShawna Harris and LeFrak City District Leader Barbara Jackson. “Black History Month is not only a celebration of what black Americans have achieved but of the central role we have played in the history of this country,” Ferreras said during the event. “Tonight, we raise the names of those who inspire us, uplift our community and are altering the course of our history once more.” The Italian-American stars shone bright at The Pierre hotel on Feb. 19 during the 49th Annual American Society of the Italian Legions of Merit Gala. Gonzalez and Judge Margaret Parisi-McGowan QUEENS COMMUNITY LEADERS TO BE HONORED Queens community leaders Helen Keit and Lina Scacco will be honored by the Samuel Field Y and the Central Queens Y at their annual Business Council networking breakfast. Keit, a licensed real estate broker at Keller Williams Realty Landmark, has represented the company’s Tri-State region in their International Agent Leadership Council for eight years. Scacco is the director of corporate outreach and development at Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation. The breakfast will be held on March 11 at 8:30 a.m. at the Village Club at Lake Success. The Samuel Field Y, which calls itself “The Everybody Place,” provide services to over 35,000 people and based their choice of honorees on their value as resources to the greater community.
