Although a cause had yet to be determined as of press time, a church official and technician heard it was electrical. It took the FDNY about an hour to put out the flames, and despite conflicting reports, firefighters had no problems with frozen fire hydrants. “Reports said there were problems but we confirmed the hydrants were functioning,” said an FDNY spokesperson. Following last weekend’s snow storm, the Department of Sanitation sent out 800 emergency snow laborers, charged with the task of clearing fire hydrants. Four firefighters sustained minor injuries and were then taken to Jamaica Hospital. The building was significantly damaged on the inside, but less than a day after the fire, neighboring churches had opened their doors to the 150-person congregation, said Barrow. “Other churches have reached out to offer space and to try and accommodate us until we find something,” she said. “People have been really supportive.” Barrow said officials plan to rebuild the space, and despite losing everything, their faith is still alive. “We know something greater is coming from this,” she said. “It’s going to be a long process. But we are strong and our faith is stronger.” hit a tree off of the Long Island Expressway, police said. Jennifer Gao, 16, of Oakland Gardens lost her life in the Tuesday, February 18 crash. Police identified the driver, who also died in the accident, as 19-year-old Jiahao Liang of Middletown, N.Y. Teary-eyed family members declined to comment on Gao or the accident. The accident happened just before 1 a.m. near Utopia Parkway and Kissena Boulevard, between exits 24 and 25, cops said. The Audi sedan was driving westbound down the expressway when the car went off the roadway, turned on its side and crashed into a tree, police said. The driver and Gao were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NYPD. According to police, preliminary investigation found that speed was likely a factor in the accident.
