Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer
of women, causing one in three deaths each year?
Whether you knew it or not, it is time for you to help
raise awareness during the 2018 Go Red for Women
 campaign.
For the past 13 years since 2004, the American Heart
Association’s (AHA) Go Red for Women have helped
raise awareness for women throughout the nation.
By challenging women to learn about heart disease, it
helps them take action for themselves to lower their
 risk.
About eight years ago, the AHA made it their mission
to reduce death and disability from cardiovascular
disease and strokes by 20 percent by the year 2020.
In order to achieve their goal, the Go Red for Women
 campaign encourages donations, corporate sponsorships
and help from cardiovascular disease experts.
As a result, more than two million women have
learned about their own personal risk of developing
heart disease. In addition, over 200,000 healthcare
provider offi ces have received crucial information
on heart disease. Th e AHA uses the donations
they receive to support and instill awareness, research,
education, and community programs in order to help
 women.
Th e red dress is the symbol of the Go Red for
Women campaign. Th e AHA made the red dress the
symbol for heart disease awareness because it brings
all organizations and people together to fi ght the disease
 as a collective unit.
Th ere are multiple ways in which you can get
involved. You can contribute to end heart disease and
stroke in women by making a donation. You can also
join the study for heart disease research. Anyone can
join and it does make a true diff erence.
Th ere are also plenty of Go Red for Women events
here in Queens. On Feb. 15 in Forest Hills, the West
Side Tennis Club is hosting a heart-healthy dinner
with two expert speakers that will help increase awareness
and talk about the connection between the heart
and brain. Th e event is $20 for general admission and
is located at 1 Tennis Pl. Forest Hills. To register for
 this event, visit www.northwell.edu/events.
More than 900,000 women have joined the fi ght.
Women who join Go Red for Women will receive
important information on women and heart disease.
Join the fi ght today at goredforwomen.org, and help
save millions of women from suff ering from heart disease
 and strokes.
