Spot Dessert Bar unveiled a brand-new dessert at its new Flushing eatery — Spot’s first location outside of Manhattan — on Wednesday, Jan. 25. Aft er opening the fi rst location in St. Mark’s in 2009 to nearly overnight success, Spot quickly opened up two other locations in Manhattan — one just down the street from the original. Now, Spot is off ering its sweet confections right here in the “World’s Borough,” and unveiled its newest dessert, Misugaru, a rich and creamy soft -serve ice cream, at its Flushing location. Craft ed by Ian Kittichai, an award-winning Iron Chef from Th ailand who serves as Spot’s culinary director and partner, the menu fuses Asian fl avors with familiar American confections. Kittichai created Spot’s original menu and updates the selection oft en, coming up with new and unique eats for visitors. Customer favorites include the chocolate green tea lava cake, honey toast and the harvest cheesecake fl ower pot — actually served within a fl ower pot. Guests are invited to sit down at two- and four-top tables within the dessert-only eatery and order tapas sets for sharing, dessert entrees or an “omakase” option for a multi-course meal. Th e bakery’s sweet treats can also be taken to go at the glass bakery counter. Spot Dessert Bar is open Sunday through Wednesday from noon until midnight, and Th ursday through Saturday from 11:30 until 1 a.m. Th e eatery is located within One Fulton Square at 39-16 Prince St. Created in 2015, One Fulton Square features restaurant, offi ce, retail and hotel space. Dine at these Queens eateries during NYC Restaurant Week BY ANGELA MATUA [email protected] @AngelaMatua Monday, Jan. 23, marked the fi rst day of NYC Restaurant Week, and four Queens restaurants are off ering great deals until Feb. 10. Organized by NYC & Company, New York City’s offi - cial destination marketing organization, more than 375 restaurants in 41 neighborhoods are participating. Each restaurant off ers three-course prixfi xe lunches for $29 and threecourse prix-fi xe dinners for $42. MP Taverna in Astoria, a “modern interpretation of a traditional Greek tavern,” according to its website, is located at 31-29 Ditmars Blvd. Appetizers at the restaurant include Cypriot lamb sausage, barrel-aged feta and Grandma’s Greek Meatballs. For entrees, Chef Michael Psilakis prepares dishes such as Greek paella, roasted lemon chicken, lamb shank and spinach, feta and dill stuff ed fi llet of sole. Th ere are also a plethora of burgers, sandwiches, salads and sides to choose from. MP Taverna will off er the deals every day except Saturday. Oro, an Italian restaurant that opened in Long Island City in August 2016, is also participating in Restaurant Week. Its threecourse dinner menu gives diners a chance to choose from dishes like roasted acorn squash bisque and braised lamb meatballs for the fi rst course; sweet pea risotto or beer-brined pork chops for the second course; and tiramisu or strawberry panna cotta, among other choices. Th e prix-fi xe dinner is off ered Monday through Friday at 41-17 Crescent St. Penthouse 808, a rooftop hotel lounge that off ers Asian cuisine, serves a variety of dishes inspired by pacific fare such as Hawaiian skirt steak, coconut curry bouillabaisse and rock shrimp tempura. For dessert, diners can choose from a chocolate coconut cake or mango and passion fruit bar. Penthouse 808 is located at 8-08 Queens Plaza in Long Island City and off ers the specials Monday through Friday and Sunday for dinner. Finally, Maiella at 46-10 Center Blvd. in Long Island City is another Italian restaurant participating. Diners can choose from three fi rst course options like polenta morbida and porcini and four entree options such as gnocchi al tartufo invernale and polla al mattone. Th e featured dessert is torta alla meringa. Four Queens restaurants are participating in NYC Restaurant Week. Maiella is off ering the specials Monday through Friday and Sunday for dinner.
