Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please join us for an evening of inspired poetry with Charles Williams, Jr. aka “Smooth” as he reads and signs copies of his magnificent book of poetry, Inner City Faces: Conversation Pieces. As the host of the East Elmhurst Library’s Open Mic and one of the stars of the Douglaston/Little Neck Library’s Open Mic, Smooth has delighted and inspired audiences with his heartfelt “imaginary conversation” pieces. Some of his poems reflect portions of his past and ultimate salvation through poetry and faith, while others reflect portions of his environment. As a result of his tireless devotion to community and especially youth, Smooth is now one of the most respected and revered poets in Queens. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential administrations, at which time the national dialogue was significantly advanced, most notably by the leadership of the late Rev.
