FRIDAY, JAN. 3 The Noguchi Museum’s “First Fridays” series of specials of art and fi lm continues with its screening of “The Lost Magic of The Shanghai Art Studio.” This Marie-Claire Quiquemelle and Julien Gaurichon fi lm documents what was, by the late 1950s, one of the world’s largest animation studios. Screening runs from 5 - 8 p.m. and admission is free. “First Fridays” also features “Center of Attention,” a guided discussion of a single work of art on view, which will focus on Isamu Noguchi’s Peking Drawing, 1930, beginning at 6 p.m. A cash bar with wine and beer opens at 5:30 p.m., and the fi lm screening begins at 7 p.m. The Noguchi Museum is located at 9-01 33rd Road in LIC. THRU JAN. 4 Artist Hisami Taniguchi, born and raised in Japan, is bringing her unique art to a solo exhibition at Resobox. Her signature style of art is created by pulling a string of a cloth by hand. Her technique was infl uenced by her memory of playing with a needle, cloth, and thread in her grandmother’s knitting shop. Korean folk painting, also called Minhwa, expresses the life and thoughts of Koreans with great wit. This exhibition will showcase 60 works from the Baraem Art Research Institute in Korea.
