Contact JULIE WEISSMAN at 718 423-3017 34 North Shore Towers Courier n December 2016 Photos by Julie Weissman Post Election: Coll’s Poll Wednesday, November 16th, the Women’s Club was treated to an evening with James Coll, police detective, adjunct professor of history at Nassau Community College and decorated hero for his rescue work on U.S. Airways flight 1549 after its crash, “The Miracle on the Hudson.” Speaking to a full house, he covered everything from the electoral college—its history and relevance to elections—the supreme court, the media’s role, demonstrations and protest, as well as a myriad of other points essential to the outcome of the election. “This was an election where people were engaged,” he stated. He also made reference to his own students and their focus on the election and its outcome. Acting President Julie Weissman and Program Chairperson Gloria Beck reported the increase of membership to 275. Future events were also announced. These include a holiday party on Wednesday, December 21st, and the return of the popular Marilyn Carminio, this time speaking on the history of marriage, on Wednesday January 18th. Future “Getting to Know You” wine-and-cheese parties are also in the planning stages, after the great success of our first, which was hosted by the gracious Carol Klinger on November 15th!
