President’s Message
BY FRED CHERNOW,
ACTING PRESIDENT
Let’s begin by giving thanks
that we live at North Shore
Towers during this scourge.
Where else can you reach a pharmacy,
food stores, two restaurants, and
other vendors via elevator? Not at
any of the high end communities in
our area. No wonder those residents
are sorry they did not buy here.
We must give thanks for our
dedicated Building and Security
Staff and their personal sacrifice
in coming here each day and continuing
their exemplary service
to our residents, Of course, such
dedication starts at the top and
once again we salute our General
Manager, Glen Kotowski.
Yes, there is other good news.
Our garden sitting area, behind the
pool, is open and clean chairs await
you. Also our staff brought back
the heavy park benches and placed
them near their original site in the
Central Plaza.
In addition, the Towers
Restaurant is making deliveries
and supplying take-out while the
dining area is closed. Their menu
prices will be discounted by 10%,
and it is changing its hours to be
open from 9am to 9pm for take-out
and deliveries. This will reduce the
need for our residents to leave their
apartments to pick up food during
this health emergency.
Food service from the VIP room
is shutting down so that we can
close the Club completely.
Dennis’s new restaurant in
Garden City Park has been making
deliveries to NST. His store phone
number is 516-416-4620 to call for
deliveries.
At the March 19th Board meeting,
some of the matters discussed and
approved include:
Board Elections
Applicants seeking election to
the Board of Directors must have
resided at NST for two years. This
will go into effect at the 2021
election.
April 30 is the date for submitting
nominations for the 2020 election.
Meet the Candidates Night will be
June 2nd (to be confirmed).
Special Projects Committee
Reports
The Art Show is scheduled for
Sunday, August 9 from 1-5 PM.
The Holocaust Memorial scheduled
for April 20 is canceled.
A Neighbor to Neighbor Program
is described in the sidebar on
this page.
Community Affairs Chair Dr.
Goldsmith has contacted SUNY
Downstate and Northwell Health
about making NST a site for
COVID-19 testing and follow up.
Capital Improvements
Mario Carmiciano, Capital
Improvement Chair, reports that
a survey of emergency lighting
on all garage levels has been
completed and that plans are in
effect to enhance and improve the
illumination.
Country Club
Ed Phelan, Country Club Chair,
reports that EDG is revising
their cost for an expanded and
redecorated
VIP Room. He also pointed out
the dangers of auto accidents in
approaching the temporary parking
area on the golf course. The Board
voted to table further discussion
pending completion of the Central
Plaza which will provide some
additional parking spaces.
Cultural Affairs
The Cultural Affairs Committee
is launching a monthly under-door
sheet with recommended viewing
of Spectrum TV films and Netflix
offerings. Residents will be asked to
submit their recommendations as

WHAT’S WORTH WATCHING ON TV?
BY JUNE SCHWARZ
After you have read the NY
Times, done the crossword
puzzle, talked, texted, or
Skyped your family and friends, it’s
time for television. But what’s worth
watching?
Each month we are going to
give you, under your door, a
one page listing of our better,
free Spectrum offerings. No subscriptions
are needed. Become a
critic/reviewer by sending me the
names of your favorite shows or
series with a short
blurb. I’ll start
you off with the
first listing.
This cooperative
effort will
be a deserved
respite from news channels and
COVID-19 coverage.

during these exceptional times,
the Special Projects Committee is instituting
a Neighbor to Neighbor Phone Call Chatline.
Any NST resident who might feel lonely or
anxious can request to be assigned a volunteer
neighbor as a telephone companion.
The telephone companion would
periodically call the person who has
requested this service. Frequency
would be determined by the two residents.
The volunteer caller would
make this period of isolation easier.

sign up either by emailing or phoning
either of us.
