Ehrlich and Sack - The Profs Are Back!
Popular St. John’s history professors Howard
Ehrlich and Harvey Sackowitz are
scheduled to return to the Women’s Club
stage for their presentation of “Behind Closed
Doors: The Private Lives of Presidents and First
Ladies.” The program will take place in the Large
Card Room on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:15 p.m.
Sharing their expertise with us in the areas
of American Presidential history, the dynamic
duo will lift the curtain on some of the private
workings of marital relationships in the White
House. We are looking forward to this sneak
peek into elements of human behavior that may
have shaped history!
The Global
Noble* (Corona
means crown in
Latin)
BY VICKI MAZEL
Anyone can be a carrier - even Miley Cyrus,
As people all around succumb to the
coronavirus.
Lots of instructions and words - some
academic,
Adding one in crisis mode - it’s called
pandemic.
No tooling around or going to a mall,
Unless there’s a sale on antiseptic Lysol.
Trying to beat the odds and staying well?
When’s the next shipment of the sanitizer
Purel?
You know what’s really one of my goals?
To have huge shelf filled with toilet rolls.
Amid the sweet sound of birds and doves,
Announcing an overflow of rubber gloves!
Elevator buttons need a little trick,
Use your elbows to avoid getting sick,
But the craziest thing that I hear,
There’s a drop in the purchase of Corona beer!
Why are people doing that for leverage,
Taking things out on an innocent beverage?
As real estate plummets on the scenes,
Of poor Corona located in Queens?
Handwashing a lot is really in style,
As the stock market crash lasts awhile.
We seniors are watched over by our brood,
As we wonder when we’ll run out of food.
So here we are in our golden years,
Introduced to a whole new set of fears.
I’ll sleep after I have my bagel and nova,
And wake me up when thing’s all over!

Lights! Camera! Action!
Due to the current coronavirus crisis, the
Cinema Club has suspended all movie
reviews until the theater re-opens. The
club, which does one monthly movie review on
designated Monday mornings, selects a film that is
showing at the Towers movie theater. A trailer of
the movie is shown by the theater’s co-manager,
Howard Simon, and a discussion follows led by
Vicki Mazel. Also participating in the program
is Dr. Nurit Israeli who provides insightful character
analysis.
In operation for over two years, the Cinema
Club is an offshoot of the North Shore Towers
Women’s Club. The movie program is open to
all residents, and opinions and discussion are
always welcomed. Notices of the movie review
dates are posted on the entrance door to the
theater, the downstairs ticket booth, the Towers
Restaurant, and all mail rooms.
News from the South
BY BOBBY GOULD
On Thursday, February 27, 20 members
of the North Shore Towers Women’s
Club -South visited the Morikami
Museum, the only Japanese museum in
the United States. The docents escorted us
through beautiful gardens and spotlighted
many things that are unique about them.
Next was a fascinating exhibit about Japanese
anime, the shortened variant of the English
word “animation”, which refers to Japanese
animated films. Anime is especially popular
with younger audiences in the U.S. although
the roots of this global industry are firmly
planted in Japan.
A Bento Box was provided for lunch including
wonderful Japanese foods. The day was
capped off with a visit to the gift shop to explore
all the interesting unique items. Thus ended
a wonderful day filled with camaraderie and
exploring a different culture to enhance our
global perspective. With winter at an end, we
will soon be returning to North Shore Towers
to reunite with our members up north.
