A NOTE OF THANKS When new residents are asked how they are enjoying living at North Shore Towers, they usually stress the fact they enjoy our many conveniences, and that it’s a pleasure not to worry about having to go out in bad weather for their daily needs or to make an emergency purchase outside the buildings. Usually, the next thing they mention is how they appreciate our staff. Wherever they’ve lived before, they notice that the cleanliness and maintenance of our buildings and our grounds are excellent. Always added is their appreciation for the dedication and politeness of the porters, doormen and concierges. That simply does not happen unless you employ a truly superior management team. The Board of Directors develops the policies for the cooperative, but it is the job of Management to hire and train every employee. Obviously Glen Kotowski, our General Manager, has hired an administrative staff that is outstanding. In the hiring process, intensive interviews are conducted from the towers A Message from the President: and every future employee is subjected to a comprehensive background check. There is little question that Glen’s supervisory staff, not only does a great job in hiring, but of equal importance is the fact that our new employees receive excellent in-service training. These training procedures and rigorous supervision are the primary reasons we receive accolades for the superior performance of our employees. Many residents are not aware of Glen’s total dedication to the job of General Manager. When we recently installed a new chimney, located behind the Towers Restaurant, Glen stayed up all night. He knew that when we had to turn the power back on, the surge of electricity could possibly cause an interruption of power to our apartments. He has slept over during Superstorm Sandy, snowstorms, major projects such as the removal of our old generators and every time we have had to secure outside generators for major electrical projects. His presentations of our needs at board meetings are always comprehensive and followed by specific recommendations. Any purchase over $10,000 must be put out for bids. Glen prepares the bid “specs” for all of our projects and is a key player in contract negotiations with bidders. Because I know what’s “on his plate” at this time, I shudder to think of the challenges he’s confronting. Here are some of the things Glen is dealing with now: * overseeing the old generators being removed and three new ones installed, * the rewiring of the entire boiler room, * the construction of the VIP Room kitchen and exhaust system, * the refurbishing of the gym, * awaiting the submission of bids for our new security contract, * supervising the repair of the water damage to the area outside the VIP Room, * formulating bid “specs” and scheduling appropriate times for the extensive renovation of the movie theater. Bob Ricken In addition to these major renovations, he must continue to provide the daily supervision for all of our staff members and respond to the questions and needs of our residents! From all of us here at North Shore Towers: Thanks Glen, to you and your staff, for a job exceedingly well done! SEND US YOUR LETTERS!
