AMERICAN BOLERO DANCE COMPANY
“”
at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City, NY
October 11th, 12th and 13Th 2019
Directed by ABDC’s Artistic Director Gabriela Granados, FlamencoLIC 2019 “A Tribute to José Molina” showcases live Flamenco and Spanish classical dance in
honor of José Molina -a beloved dancer and master teacher, who passed away last year.
American Bolero Dance Company has revived some of his choreographies created for the company over the years, with the addition of modern choreographies
inspired by his favorite flamenco songs, and a potpourrí of some of his favorite boleros, ballads, coplas and more.
American Bolero Dance Company was founded by Ms. Granados in 1996 with a mission to preserve, teach and present performances in the United States that
accurately represent the music, history and the traditional dances of Spain and Latin America. Following its incorporation in 1998, the Company made its debut
at Carnegie Hall with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in 1998. Since then, ABDC has presented its signature productions to rave reviews in the United States and in
Europe. These have included Olé! Olé! at the INTAR Hispanic American Arts Center (1998), Olé! Olé! Fin de Siglo at the Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse (1999),
Spanish Gems at Flushing Town Hall (2005) and Retrospectiva at the Tony Bennett Concert Hall in Frank Sinatra School of Arts (2014). Its popular Tablao Flamenco
series has taken place in Astoria from 2008 to 2015. As the Company’s Artistic Director and primary choreographer, Ms. Granados has been frequently invited to
choreograph for and appear with renowned opera companies and orchestras.
Exploring the rhythmic intricacies and song literature of Flamenco, the refined and stylized repertory of Clásico Español and the traditions of the Escuela Bolera,
ABDC’s productions are noted for their theatricality, imaginative choreography and authentic costuming, whether they be fully-staged professional shows to the
annual student recitals through the Company’s affiliated Spanish Dance School (established in 2002). FlamencoLIC makes no exception to this.
A spirited and varied program that journeys through different eras and music and dance genres, FlamencoLIC 2019 is sure to please audiences of all ages and
backgrounds. Classical compositions by Albeníz and Vives as well as traditional Spanish coplas, boleros and ballads, and Flamenco dances like Soleá, Serranas,
Caracoles and Bulerías will be presented. The production also boasts a stellar ensemble of some of the finest flamenco and classical music and dance performers from
New York City, including dancers GABRIELA GRANADOS, JOSÉ MORENO, SOL “LA ARGENTINITA”, ANNA DE LA PAZ, ADRIANA JACINTO, and DEBRA ANICH; flamenco singers
AURORA REYES and LA CONJA; guitarists BASILIO GEORGES and RAPHAEL BRUNN; percussionist GUILLERMO BARRÓN; and pianist WILLIAM HOBBS.
In an intimate black box theatrical setting that lends the audience an up close and personal experience, the shows take place on Friday October 11th at 8 PM, Saturday
