Two fi refi ghters
injured in
Gerritsen blaze

Two fi refi ghters were injured Tuesday night
while battling a blaze on a normally quiet block of
Gerritsen Beach.
The inferno broke out inside 72 Ebony Court
shortly before 11:30 pm on Aug. 17, fi re offi cials said,
and fi rst responders arrived to fi nd heavy smoke
and fi re emitting from the second and third fl oor of
the wood-frame dwelling, and its neighboring unit.
Firefi ghters operated fi ve hose lines while knocking
down the main body of the fi re. In all, it took
more than 125 fi refi ghters two hours to bring the
blaze under control.
Searches of the building and neighboring building
were negative, meaning no residents were inside
or harmed during the fi re, though two fi refi ghters
suffered minor injuries.
The cause of the fi re remains under investigation
by the fi re marshal’s offi ce.
