LISA SORIN
PRESIDENT OF THE NEW BRONX CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Lisa Sorin, president of the New Bronx Chamber of Commerce, is its first female president and the first woman to
serve as board chairperson.
As president, Sorin said she has brought financial stability and a new vision to the chamber, with focus on innovative
public-private partnerships and legislative advocacy to strengthen the voice of the Bronx business community in local
government.
Prior to her role as chamber president, Sorin – who holds a master’s degree in business leadership and a Bachelor
of Business Administration from Concordia College – was executive director of the Westchester Square Business
Improvement District for six years.
There, she was responsible for economic and community development, programming, fundraising and fiscal
management, with a focus on elevating the area’s retail mix, and educating merchants on the importance of marketing
and navigating city services.
Sorin said she reduced the vacancy rate from 11 percent to 4 percent, established art installations, built the Business
Improvement District (BID) website, minimized graffiti, and developed family event series reaching thousands of
residents and visitors.
She was also founder and principal of LAS Consulting Services, Inc., providing marketing, public relations and
event planning for non-profit and corporate entities.
In the past two decades, Sorin has held various positions on Community Board 2, Bronx YMCA, Red Cross, Casita
Maria, Bronx Council on the Arts, VISIONS and the Bronx Children’s Museum.
Her contributions have been acknowledged by the CORO Neighborhood Leadership Program, and she has been
listed as one of the Bronx Times’ 25 Most Influential Bronx Women.
Sorin has received numerous accolades, including awards from the Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and
the New York City Parks Department, and citations from the Office of the Bronx Borough President and other elected
officials.
A Bronx resident, Sorin said she has devoted her career to highlighting the culture and community of the borough,
and improving its infrastructure.
