Shamekia Gordon is director of Strategic Community Initiatives, Hunts Point Community Partnership.
She is a passionate community advocate, who was born and raised in Boston, MA. She graduated from Tuskegee
University with a BA in political science and completed a graduate’s certificate program at UMass Boston entitled
“Women in Politics & Public Policy.” Gordon continued her educational quest in 2014, receiving a Master of Science from
Wheelock College (now Boston College) in organizational leadership, with a concentration in nonprofit management.
She has over 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector in the areas of human services, community building,
collective impact, workforce and youth development.
Since 2019, Gordon has led the Hunts Point Community Partnership (HPCP), a service funded by New York City’s
Administration for Children Services. The multimillion-dollar contract allows her team to use a preventative and
partnership approach to addressing the needs of families in Bronx Community District 2.
Within three years, Gordon and her HPCP team developed a solid strategic plan, with focus on a viable priority
area to effectively serve children and families in the Hunts Point/Longwood community.
Her daily responsibilities include planning, developing and implementing strategies for sustaining and increasing
participation of community members, schools and local community-based organizations (CBOs) to work together,
leveraging all to work together.
Gordon, subsequently, was instrumental in guiding the Community Partnership (CP) in providing essential support,
assistance and resources to children and families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For her work, on February 17, 2021, she received a proclamation from New York State Senator Alessandra Biaggi.
On April 28, 2021, for extraordinary efforts to protect children, strengthen families and support children’s services’
efforts to achieve these goals, Gordon was presented with The Commissioner’s Child Advocacy Award from
Commissioner David A. Hansell, Administration for Children’s Services.
She said she was “grateful to be able to lead an incredible team that truly cares about our community.
“Every day, I wake up committed to trying to make the Hunts Point/Longwood community a better place for all of the residents,
who continue to deserve so much more than what our society offers them,” she said.Gordon said she has led her team in building
social capital in Hunts Point by increasing access to and participation in programs and services by families with children.
To date, and with only a staff of eight, she said the HPCP has served over 100,000 families in a variety of ways.
