Created in 1994 by Eileen and Guy Eger, a Mother’s Kiss provides
services for families of childhood cancer patients.

packages called blessing boxes to the community and
its food pantry, located in Middle Island, includes baby
items.
Branches Long Island is a nonprofit organization run by
volunteers who engage in community outreach and offer

Brittany’s Baskets of Hope provides families with
baskets filled with essential items and gifts for
newborns.
Brittany’s Baskets of Hope, Inc. offers support and informational
tips to families with newborns who have been diagnosed with
Down syndrome.

Independence

Canine Companions for Independence has corporate
partners like Petsmart Charities, Build-A-Bear,
and Eukanuba and maintains partnerships with
corporations such as the Wounded Warrior Project
and the National Automobile Dealers Charitable
Foundation.
Canine Companions for Independence provides trained
assistance dogs to people with disabilities.

Family Service League has more than 60 social service
programs as well as toy drives and informational
health sessions.
Family Service League helps individuals, children, and families
to mobilize their strengths and improve the quality of their lives.

Kidz Charity

This nonprofit holds annual fundraisers to benefit
sick or struggling children in our area and their
families.
Through Kidz Charity Productionz, children get hands-on
experience in community service and volunteer work.

The League of Yes has a Skills Program led by former
professional baseball players, college players and local
youth league players. It is designed for older, more
able players to improve their baseball skills.
The League of Yes creates baseball programs for people of all
ages with disabilities, helping them to improve their social skills
and become part of a team

Life’s Worc’s Family Center for Autism (FCA) in
Garden City teaches vocational and socialization
skills.
Life’s Worc offers a variety of programs and services for people
with intellectual disabilities, including employment, education,
and family support.

Collaborative
Lihealthcollab.org
The Long Island Health Collaborative hosts walks, a
yoga series, and health literacy training sessions and
also offers flu vaccinations.
The Long Island Health Collaborative partners with hospitals
and health providers to combat obesity, chronic disease and
behavioral health conditions across Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Outreach

Besides its homeless outreach programs, Maureen’s
Haven has an emergency winter shelter program and
kids day center, open year-round.
Maureen’s Haven has been supplying the homeless with free
meals, support services and shelter since 2002.

This not-for-profit organization connects families of
individuals with special needs and the professionals
who serve them, offering support, information, and
training.
Parent to Parent NYS connects and trains parents to provide
support and information to families and caretakers of people
with special healthcare needs and developmental disabilities.

Pronto’s programs include a food pantry, a thrift
center that gives out donated clothes, a warehouse for
household items, and an immunization program for
children with no health insurance coverage.
Pronto: People Helping People’s mission is to feed the hungry,
clothe the needy, welcome the stranger and provide healing and
hope to everyone who walks through the organization’s doors.

Share the Voice offers a program called Little Voices,
which educates school-aged children on disability and
teaches them life lessons.
Share the Voice works to create therapeutic recreation and
healthy, active lifestyles for children with disabilities by
supplying them with adaptive tricycles.

The S.H.O.P. also offers counseling, assistance with
entitlement programs, and community referrals.
Located in Cedarhurst, the S.H.O.P. runs the Rina Shkolnik
Kosher Food Pantry, offering food, cleaning supplies and
personal care items to individuals and families facing hardship.

Center

The Sunshine Prevention Center hosts school outreach
services and parenting programs for adults.
The Sunshine Prevention Center teaches children and young
adults about violence prevention and the dangers of substance
abuse.

Those seeking assistance can sign up for peer-support
groups and workshops. Operating agencies include
Family & Children’s Association and the Long Island
Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence.
Through peer-based support and referral services, individuals
and families can find, maintain, and strengthen their recovery.

Winters’ day program has vocational training and
specializes in career planning, setting up mock
interviews and assisting people with job searches.
Winters Center for Autism, formed this year, works to create job
opportunities for adults with autism.
