Walking tall
“Walking in stilettos is
an accomplishment all
its own,” Melville’s Lauren
Ruotolo likes to say.
“Walking in them when
you’re not even supposed
to be walking is another.”
Lauren knows something
of which she speaks. Born
with a rare and random
disease called McCune-Albright
syndrome, she has
short, fragile legs that cap
her height at just over 4
feet. She was supposed to
spend life in a wheelchair.
Instead, Lauren is a wildly
successful marketing executive,
author and motivational
speaker – and
the designer of fabulously
heeled shoes that give
back at least a few inches
of what nature took away
at birth.
In her book, Unstoppable
in Stilettos: A Girl’s Guide
to Living Tall in a Small
World, Lauren shared
her life philosophies that
enabled her to pursue her
dream.
Her shoe collection, Unstoppable
by Lauren Jae,
is out this fall. A portion
of the proceeds go to
support research on rare
diseases.
