“Cinema Play House”

Check out this exhibit that explores “aging single-screen

theaters” in India. In Nandita Raman’s “Cinema
Play House” the photographer shows the history of
the once-popular cinema halls. In the 1980s, the
rise of home video and the emergence of multiplex
theaters threatened the very existence of these
single-screen theaters and Raman’s black and white
photos documents the gradual disappearance of these
communal spaces.

“Tiffany’s Iridescence: Glass in Rainbow Hues”
On view Oct. 7 to Oct. 6
This exhibit features glass art by Louis C. Tiffany. The
Neustadts began collecting Tiffany lamps in 1935 that
now have become part of The Neustadt Gallery. Their
collection of more than 200 lamps has become the
largest and most comprehensive lamp collection in the
world. This exhibition will explain the science and artistry
behind the sheet and blown glass.

“James Turrell: Meeting”
Ongoing exhibit
MoMA PS 1 presents “James Turrell: Meeting”,
a site-specific installation that allows
viewers to observe the unobstructed night
sky. “Meeting” was the second of Turrell’s
Skyspaces and the first in the United States.
The work was originally commissioned in 1976
by P.S.1 founder Alanna Heiss for the museum’s
inaugural exhibition, but was not shown to the
public until 1986.
