Hey, LIC readers!
We’re just weeks away from Thanksgiving, which marks the
beginning of the holiday season.
So, slip into something cozy, cuddle up on your couch and see
what news we have in store for you this month!
For all my real estate junkies, a new report from MNS Real
Estate just released their Third Quarter New Development Re-port
for Queens, which showed that Long Island City saw the
most new development sales in the borough. According to the
report, the neighborhood’s sales accounted for 68.9 percent of
the entire borough’s sales. Check out this story and more in our
real estate section.
In community news, we tell you about how the NYC Parks
Department completed the first phase of the $30 million Astoria
Park renovation seven months ahead of schedule. We also head
to Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City, where Queens
and Manhattan students learn about the ecological health of the
East River. Turn to page 22 for more.
Also in LIC, we get a taste of Ecuador at Rincón Melania, named
for the family matriarch Lucila Melania Dutan. Her kids, Nestor
Jazmani Dutan and his siblings Jennifer, Alex and GiGi serve
up tasty bites from their country, including potato and cheese
croquettes known as llapingachos, the Ecuadorian national dish
encebollado and various ceviche.
Then we move over to Astoria for dessert at Biskoti Bakery and
Café. Owner and neighborhood native Tommy Stagias wanted to
introduce locals to Mediterranean pastries like a classic baklava.
Biskoti also serves “380 pastries offerings include chocolate
mousse, 15 different kinds of cheesecake, 52 different biscotti
and 27 kinds of Mediterranean pitas.” Read all about it in our
feature section.
In our around Queens section, we give you a sneak peak of
the upcoming Hello Panda Festival where bright lanterns, tasty
food and whimsical art collide. From Dec. 6 to Jan. 26, visitors
are welcome to see this one-of-a-kind event at Citi Field.
If you’re looking for art galleries to go to or activities in your
community, look no further than our art and events calendars
on pages 52 and 54.
As always, you can email me at jbagcal@schnepsmedia.com
if you have any tips stories or anything else you’d like to share.
See you back here next month!
