BY ALEXA ALTMAN Previously working as personal trainers at a different fitness studio, both Suarez and Schneider saw that there needed to be a focus on the quality of the classes rather than just looking to make some profit. “We wanted to make something that is not only our own but something that is of quality - quality service,” Suarez said. Since opening up, the Astoria location now has three morning classes and four in the afternoon and evening. All classes are made up of no more than 15 people, because, according to Suarez, it allows there to be more connection with the members. The size of the class also allows the energy of the room to be different, Suarez said, as classmates manage to motivate each other and he can get around to make sure everyone’s forms are what they should be. “I don’t shout to motivate, I speak,” he said about how he runs the classes. Each workout offered fits into one of the four focuses : Upper Body, Lower Body, Core & Cardio, and Total Body. The structure of the one hour classes includes mobility exercises, warm-up, strength and cardio circuits, and a cool down/stretch. Each workout is different than the previous one, and constructed by the 50 october 2014 i LIC COURIER i www.queenscourier.com trainer teaching that session. Just as none of the workouts are ever repeated, Suarez tries to keep the environment changing as well. During days with nice weather, some classes are taken to the location’s balcony or roof space. Also, once every month classes are taught in Astoria Park. The Astoria location also offers clients the ability to work out on four unique devices: a row machine, which mimics rowing a boat; a ski machine, which mimics skiing and is only found in the Astoria site; kettle bells; and body weight suspensions known as TRX. In the next six months, the Astoria location will be making a move from 900 square feet to a much larger 3,000-square-foot space just a few streets away. Even with just recently opening the third location in Bayside, Suarez and his partners are looking to continue expanding – with a goal of opening up 20 other studios in the next five years. “I really want to take this nationwide because I think there is not enough gyms that are focused on the quality of their product and service and are really just focused on revenue,” Suarez said. “We’re trying to take over Queens.” For more information visit, www.sagefit.com or call 718- 767-2659.
