Sunnyside Shines Sunnyside’s 4th Annual Restaurant Week Launches September 19 It’s almost time for the most delicious week of dining out in one of New York City’s most diverse areas: Sunnyside, Queens. The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District presents the 4th annual Sunnyside Restaurant Week, which begins this year on Monday, September 19. Thirty restaurants have signed up for the event, which features dining deals inside local restaurants and showcases Sunnyside as a dining destination. Sunnyside Restaurant Week is a weeklong promotion taking place from September 19 – 25, 2016. This year’s event runs the full seven-day week rather than five days in previous years. Enthusiastic eaters from all over the five boroughs are invited to sample international cuisine from some of the most authentic local restaurants in New York City. This year’s Sunnyside Restaurant Week will feature menus from 30 restaurants. Each restaurant will serve a three-course dinner menu for $25 with many establishments offering additional lunch specials, and a few offering the $25 dinner menu for two people. Menus for each participating restaurant will be posted online as they are received: http:// www.sunnysideshines.org/sunnyside-restaurant week Foodies and gastronomy fans have a dizzying selection of diverse and delicious cuisines from which to choose. On the menu: Italian, Japanese, Peruvian, Mexican, Irish, Thai, Colombian, Tibetan, French, Seasonal American, and more. Participating restaurants include newcomers to the Sunnyside culinary scene (The Lowery Bar and Kitchen, Thai Diva Cuisine, Boon by Moldova Restaurant) as well as the neighborhood’s two restaurants recognized as Michelin “Bib Gourmands” (Venturo and Salt and Fat). Sunnyside Restaurant Week brings these great dining deals to 30 of Sunnyside’s most exciting and diverse restaurants including: • Ariyoshi (Japanese) • Arriba Arriba (Mexican) • Bliss 46 Bistro (French) • Blu Orchid Thai Kitchen (Thai) • Boon by Moldova Restaurant (Moldovan) • Café 52 (American) • Claret Wine Bar (Wine Bar) • Copper Kettle (Irish/American) • Dazies Restaurant (Italian) • De Mole Restaurant (Mexican) • Dee Thai Restaurant (Thai) • Don Pollo (Peruvian) • I Love Paraguay (Paraguayan) • La Adelita (Mexican) • Los Verdes (Colombian) • Mario’s Restaurant (Italian) • Pete’s Grill (American) • Punda Tibetan Restaurant (Tibetan) • Quaint (New American) • Riko Peruvian Café Express (Peruvian) • Riko Peruvian Cuisine (Peruvian) • Saffron Garden (Indian) • Salt and Fat (New American) • Sidetracks (Irish/American) • Soleluna (Italian) • Takesushi (Japanese) • Thai Diva Cuisine (Thai) • The Dog and Duck (Gastropub) • The Lowery Bar and Kitchen (New American) • Venturo (Italian) Also new at this year’s Sunnyside Restaurant Week: a contest encouraging people to dine out multiple times during the week. Each time a customer orders the Restaurant Week deal at a participating restaurant, they will receive a sticker on their Restaurant Week card. If a customer collects three stickers they can return their card to any participating restaurant and be entered to win dinner for four to a participating restaurant of their choice (a $250 gift certificate). Cards are available at all participating restaurants and will be distributed throughout the neighborhood during September. “Sunnyside Restaurant Week is a great reason to try a new local restaurant or make your first visit to Sunnyside,” said Rachel Thieme, executive director of Sunnyside Shines. “We hope people get excited about the contest and dine out multiple times during the week. Restaurant Week keeps getting bigger and better, and we’re thrilled to highlight so many delicious restaurants that really reflect the diverse communities in Queens.” Sunnyside Restaurant Week has shown to increase business at participating restaurants each year. In his third year of participating, Javier Quezada, owner of Colombian restaurant Los Verdes said “As a local business owner I believe Sunnyside Restaurant Week has helped put our business on the map, not only in Sunnyside but throughout New York. It is a great event which allows us to showcase our best dishes to customers who are excited to taste something new at a reasonable price.” Boon by Moldova Restaurant opened this summer and will participate in their first Sunnyside Restaurant Week. “Restaurant Week is an amazing opportunity to show Sunnyside how our restaurant can shine,” said Sorina Panfil, the restaurant’s manager. “Come on in to hand-pick your own ray of sunshine.” Los Verdes Courtesy Katie Lobel
