Mixing It Up BY SASHA POGREBINSKY DIY School is back in session, vacation is over, and summer is just about done. We are all getting back to our jobs, back into professional mode and we have to put away our margaritas and sangrias. There’s always happy hour but there’s another day to tackle tomorrow and you have to stay sharp. Check out some of my favorite DIY happy hour ingredients. This is stuff you can keep in your wet bar or fridge and throw together fast and share with a neighbor, and feel ready to go the next day. Plus everybody loves a good looking, well stocked DIY cocktail bar at home. It’s like a little treat you give yourself after a long day’s work. Try this September inspired recipe for an Apple Cider Cocktail. Big Apple MUST HAVE IN YOUR LIQUOR CABINET: Vodka Whiskey Rum MUST HAVE IN YOUR FRIDGE: lemons limes an orange some fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme fresh apples ginger ale seltzer apple juice or apple cider EXTRA TOUCH: salt sugar cinnamon sticks caramel candy INTO THE SHAKER: 1 sprig rosemary or thyme 4 thin slices of apple 4 oz of apple cider or apple juice 4 oz of your choice of liquor ice 2 drops of citrus (lemon, lime or orange) Shake!
