Hey, readers!
As you’re out savoring this last month of summer sun, we at
the magazine are working to get you the latest in neighborhood
news. Check out what we’ve got in store for August.
Fitness enthusiasts, rejoice! Long Island City will be getting a
new Planet Fitness in 2020. The “Judgement Free Zone” signed
a lease for 18,000 square feet at Alta+, a new luxury apartment
building on Northern Boulevard.
The New York Times Company recently signed a lease for
office space in Long Island City. The company plans to make a
new at home 22-01 44th Road at Court Square Place, relocating
350 of its employees from its headquarters at 620 Eighth Ave. in
Manhattan. Read more on this story in our Real Estate section.
This month, we reported on Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer’s
comprehensive protected bike lane plan beginning with LIC. The
lawmaker called on the Department of Transportation to start
working on a protected bike lane network that would span all five
boroughs in New York City. We also wrote about how President
Trump snubbed Congressman Carolyn Maloney from a 9/11 bill
signing ceremony following her lead authorship on the 9/11
Victims Compensation Act. Read these stories and more in our
Community News section.
Try some new tasty treats at Four Winters on Vernon Boulevard.
The international ice cream chain known for its liquid nitrogen
creations opened its first east coast location in Long Island City
and also has stores in London, Egypt and Los Angeles.
Also in our Features section is a new exhibit called “The Artists
of Materials for the Arts”, a new reuse exhibit in Long Island City.
Sustainable art enthusiasts can check out this exhibit until Sept.6.
Check out our Features section for more fun in western Queens.
Next month, LIC Flea & Food returns for another fun-filled
season. Empanada Papa, Muzzles and Chori & Chimi are just
a few of the crowd favorites coming back to this year’s market.
Get some self care in Sunnyside for the second annual Spa
and Salon Fest. 17 Sunnyside businesses are slated to participate,
with many offering $30 service deals for participating customers.
As always, we have great art exhibits and neighborhood
event suggestions in our calendars where you can always find
things to do and see.
If you have any tips, suggestions or just want to reach out,
email me at jbagcal@schnepsmedia.com.
See you in September!
